Crisp, winter weather may have arrived in many parts of the country, but right along the San Jacinto Mountains, lies Palms Springs – an oasis promising year-long sunshine and warmth. A retreat from the hustle and bustle of metropolitan cities, this laid-back, Southern California escape lends itself to happy gatherings of friends and family. A typical Palm Springs evening is likely to include soft acoustic music, plenty of freshly-muddled herb cocktails and an array of beautifully-seasoned food that begs to be enjoyed outside.
This relaxed simplicity is one of the many reasons Palm Springs is so beloved by locals and vacationers alike. And, this one-of-a-kind aesthetic also describes the Sierra Way home remodel by Thomboy Properties designers Jackie Thomas and DeeAnn McCoy. A breathtaking estate characterized by a fresh color palate, natural light, and modern accents, the finished home provides the perfect backdrop for anything from brunch on the outdoor patio to a casual afternoon barbecue.
Having the opportunity to learn about the home design process is always a humbling and captivating experience for me. Given the same raw tools and materials, each designer exhibits a miraculous level of artistry and creative finesse to produce a resulting space that is truly unique and special. In chatting with Jackie Thomas and DeeAnn McCoy about the Sierra Way property, they shared some background on their design process, and how they went from a rough sketch for the home to a concrete reality. And as it turns out, the design duo actually skipped ahead to the very end to begin the design process.
Asking themselves, “How will this kitchen be used?”, “What types of gatherings will the owners host?”, and “How can I make their experience easier?” provided the Thomboy Properties designers with a clear design trajectory for Sierra Way. Once these simple questions were answered, the other details simply fell into place. Installing Bosch appliances proved to be an obvious choice, as our dishwashers, refrigerators, ovens, and cooktops deliver an uncanny level of functionality that perfectly suits the Palm Springs lifestyle.
For example, the L-shaped layout of the kitchen limited the designers’ configuration options. However, they strategically leveraged an attractive, horizontal wall oven installation to keep the space open and airy. Rather than closing up the space with a traditional drop-down wall oven, the designers opted to feature two Bosch SideOpening Wall Ovens and a Bosch Steam Oven at eyelevel, enabling easy ergonomic access to the oven racks. Best of all, this ingenious design also provided plenty of room for two custom panel bar handle dishwashers on the adjacent wall – a necessity for any host or hostess!
Just as Bosch upholds the principle of marrying both form and function in the design of its products, Jackie and DeAnn leveraged this same belief to create a Palm Springs haven for relaxation, entertaining and everything in between.
