If you follow my posts on A Modern Haven (and I hope you are!), you’ve likely noticed my passion for sharing simple tweaks that can enhance your life – or “Do Just One Thing,” as I like to say. With summer in full swing, I’m so excited to share with you one of my all-time favorite tips for refreshing, and festive, beverages – herb ice cubes!
If you ask me, fresh herbs are the perfect finishing touch for any dish. A simple sprinkling of fresh parsley can add complexity and depth to an otherwise subdued egg white frittata, while a sprig of Moroccan mint can truly transform classic summer desserts, like peach cobbler à la mode. But, what about what’s in your glass?
Herb ice cubes are the perfect addition to any glass this summer. Trying to stay hydrated while the weather heats up? Herb ice cubes can make drinking extra water extra fun! Adding these “cool cubes”—both in aesthetic and temperature—to a glass of sparkling water, or to your go-to summer cocktail adds another layer of freshness on a sweltering day.
I recently stopped by the Bosch Experience and Design Center to show off my DIY herb ice cube recipe – here’s a quick “how to” video to help you create these frozen gems at home.
I love using herbs from my garden to create refreshing herb ice cubes. Here’s what you’ll need to create this recipe:
DIY HERB ICE CUBES
4 sprigs of fresh mint
4 sprigs of fresh thyme
2 silicon ice cube molds
3 cups filtered water
- Get creative with the types of herbs you use! Mint and thyme are my go-to favorites, but the options are endless. Once you’ve selected your herbs, remove the herb leaves from each stem and rinse. P.S. Here are some tips for storing your favorite herbs and greens.
- Distribute 2-3 fresh herb leaves into each ice cube tray.
- Cover each tray with filtered water and transfer the tray to the freezer in your Bosch Benchmark Refrigerator.
- After approximately 4 hours, remove the ice cubes from the tray and drop them into your favorite beverage.
What types of herbs, or combination of herbs, are you going to include in your herb ice cubes? I’d love to hear—let me know in the comments!
