Imagine serving your friends and family the perfect summer meal. Beautiful ears of yellow corn selected from the farmers’ market. Sustainably sourced mahi-mahi. A homemade French baguette made from organic wheat. And to finish it all off, a flaky peach cobbler featuring fresh, ripe white peaches. Now, imagine being able to cook that entire meal, to perfection, in about an hour. No, it is not magic, but it is one of the many reasons why I love my steam oven.
As a National Product Specialist for Bosch, I spend each day cooking on our innovative appliances. And I love showing others how Bosch appliances can help make preparing meals easier, healthier and more enjoyable. While it is hard to choose my absolute favorite appliance, the Bosch Steam Convection Oven is the one product that I use almost every day in my own kitchen!
But if there’s one thing that I’ve realized, it’s that there are a lot of misconceptions about what dishes to prepare with this new technology.
When you say “steam,” most people only think of vegetables. And while, yes, asparagus made in the Bosch Steam Convection Oven should be considered the eighth wonder of the world, there are so many other delicious foods that deserve to be cooked with steam.
Did you know that many restaurants use a steam oven to achieve that delicious melt-in-your mouth texture for breads, poultry, and meat? In fact, here is a cookbook developed by our Bosch culinary team with delicious recipes – from Lemongrass Risotto to Marinated Chicken Skewers – that can all be made in the Bosch Steam Convection oven.
While the list of items that can be made in the steam oven is endless, there are three other reasons why I love cooking with my steam oven.
The flavor and texture is unmatched. The biggest difference between steam and traditional cooking is the use of moist heat. Conventional ovens mainly use dry heat, while the Bosch Steam Convection Oven uses a mixture of dry and moist heat, which retains all the delicious juices and flavors in your food, right where they belong.
Steam helps to retain nutrients. With a steam oven, healthy eating can be both flavorful and nutritious. In addition to bringing out all the tasty flavors in your food, steam cooking also locks in the nutrients and minerals naturally found in vegetables, meats and poultry.
It can help save time. For many, getting dinner on the table is a daily challenge. And, with fast food restaurants on every corner, it can sometimes be difficult to choose to prepare a healthy meal at home. Luckily, a special setting, the Steam Convection mode, can cook food in about 2/3 the time of a conventional oven. Preparing Thanksgiving dinner is a breeze when it only takes 90 minutes to cook a 15-pound turkey!
