Where did this year go? I feel like just yesterday I was kicking off 2017, and setting my New Year resolutions. But, with November in full swing, I’m ready to embrace the fun holiday cooking that lies in the months ahead. From a delicious green bean casserole and homemade candied yams, to shortbread cookies and the perfect roast turkey (or your favorite casseroles or tofu alternative for my fellow vegetarians!), it’s time to start thinking about holiday cooking.
I can’t wait to step into the kitchen to create delicious meals and memories with my friends and family. But, if you are feeling a little more holiday anxiety than holiday joy when it comes to cooking, rest assured that we’ve all been there. I remember the night before hosting Friendsgiving last year – I had a moment of pre-meal panic. I’d peeled the potatoes, diced butternut squash, and laid out all my dry ingredients in preparation, but I still felt like I needed to do more. That’s when I remembered that successful cooking starts with simplicity. Yes, it is important to prepare your ingredients and dishes as much as possible, but it’s equally important to think about what tools you can rely on to simplify the cooking experience.
Luckily, Bosch appliances are designed to ease food preparation so you can enjoy that extra glass of wine or eggnog (if you’re feeling extra festive) with deliciously baked brie in style. Today, I want to walk you through three of my favorite tips that can help you simplify holiday cooking this season!
Skip the Heavy Lifting
Hosting people for the holidays is so much fun, but it can feel like a lot of work, too! Simplify your experience in the kitchen with the help of the Bosch SideOpening Wall Oven. Since creating the perfect holiday meal often means many hours of standing on your feet, not to mention plenty of slicing, dicing, and sautéing – look for features that make the process easier. With this oven, the doors smoothly swing open to the side, so you can easily insert any dish or baking sheet onto the rack without bending over or putting pressure on your back. Plus, the MeatProbe feature takes the guesswork out of cooking your turkey or roast – it will let you know exactly when your dish has reached the perfect internal temperature.
Save Time with Steam
Time is another consideration when cooking for the holidays. If the guests arrive at 3p.m. and dinner needs to be on the table by 4:30p.m. sharp – you must use your time efficiently. Like I said before, advanced planning of your ingredients is a great tactic to tackle holiday cooking, but I also encourage people to look for other time-saving options. The Bosch Steam Convection Oven is the perfect holiday party trick. By using both steam and convection baking technology, food tends to cook more quickly. Imagine being able to achieve the fluffiest dinner rolls before most of your holiday guests have had the chance to finish their first cocktail!
Clean as You Go
And lastly, whenever there is cooking there is inevitably cleaning. It’s easy to fall into the classic holiday cooking trap, where you leave all the dirty dishes in a pile and deal with them once your final guest has departed with their holiday leftovers in tow. But, with so much of a dinner party’s activities taking place in the kitchen, the best way to stay festive, and worry free, is to clean as you cook. The Bosch Benchmark Dishwasher can be your best friend in the kitchen when cooking for the holidays, as its MyWay rack perfectly fits tools like large measuring cups, ramekins, whisks and other items that you surely will use this season. I like to make a game out of it, too. When the butter for my rosemary thyme garlic bread is melting, I’ll take those 30 seconds to see how many dirty pots, pans, and bowls I can load into the dishwasher. By tidying up the kitchen while I cook, I end up enjoying the holiday festivities that much more.
Are you ready for your next holiday cooking adventure? Between Friendsgiving, holiday parties, and New Year’s brunch, there are plenty of opportunities this season to put your culinary skills to the test. When you are ready to dive in, try to keep in mind that simplicity is always better, and take advantage of the kitchen tools that can work overtime this season so you don’t have to.
